PUREBRED AYRSHIRES
SALE AT ARDGOWAN. GOOD PRICES REALISED. A representative attendance of breeders from all parts of the Dominion as well as dajrymen, made the first annual sale of Mr James G. Donald’s Ardgowan Ayrshires held at the Ardgowan Stud Farm, Featherston, yesterday, a record. Three of the yearling bulls made three figure prices and the fifteen yearling Lulls averaged 6.3 guineas, and the three two-year-old bulls 45 guineas. The top price paid was 130 guineas for “Ardgowan Battle Song” by “Netherton Mahmound” (imp.) from “Ardgowan Starlight,” a bull of exceptional development who was purchased by Mr J. Legg, of Canterbury. Mr A. M. Weir, the wellknown Southland breeder, secured the first lot, “Ardgowan Makbar,” a great quality at 110 guineas, and Mr A. King, of Dargaville, paid 105 guineas for “Ardgowan Sahib.” All three top priced bulls were son of the Scottish bred bull “Netherton Mahmound.” who carried off the Royal championship after his arrival in the Dominion. There was exceptional bidding for the rising yearling heifers which made up to 68 guineas, this price being paid by Mr S. Wright, of Katikate. The 20 head averaged 33 guineas. The cattle were brought forward in excellent condition and in his remarks at the- commence ment of the sale, Mr W. C.
