FIGURES FOR JULY.

The following are the vital statistics for July, the corresponding figures for the same month last year being shown in parentheses:—/Births 7 (10); marriages 3 (10); deaths 3 (4).

Personal Items. A pleasant function took place at the monthly .'.meeting of the Carterton branch df the Women’s Division of the Farmers Union yesterday afternoon whep-" members’' of the Social Club made a presentation to Miss Z. Abbott, wh'o is to be married on Saturday, August 9. Mrs Walsh, president of the club, referred to the great interest taken by Miss Abbott in the social activities of the W.D.F.U., and on behalf of members asked her to accept a silver jam spoon and butter knife. She wished Miss Abbott the best of health and happiness in the future. Miss Abbott suitably replied, saying that although after her marriage she would be leaving this district she would always retain happy recollections of her associations with the W.D.F.U. Mrs J. Crawley, of Taylor Street, Carterton, has returned to her home after treatment at the Greytown Hospital. Mr and Mrs W. Adlam and family left Carterton yesterday for their new home at Longburn. Lewis Gun Model. Considerable interest is being taken by the public in an excellent model of a Lewis gun that is on view in the showroom window of the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. The gun is well made and will be a useful weapon for the purpose of giving instruction to members of the Home Guard unit in Carterton. The gun was made by Sergt. P. Millichamp (Guardsman), Mr M. Ararey and Mr M. J. Hawken, a member of the "Wairarapa Electric Power Board. Patriotic Dance at Parkvale. Another of the popular series of dahcbs and euchre tourneys conducted by residents of Parkvale will be held in the Parkvale Hall tonight. Mrs Ashton’s orchestra will provide the dance music and good prizes will be given for the card tourney.
