IHURAUA

WOMEN’S. DIVISION MEETING OF SEWING GUILD. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was a good attendance at a meeting of the Ihuraua Ladies’ Patriotic Sewing Guild under the auspices of the Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union held recently at the residence of Mrs P. Pickering. Several articles of clothing were received as well as two quilts. An eiderdown was given by a member. Nine soldiers' parcels were packed. A competition for a tin of homemade biscuits donated by Miss E. Dagg was won by Mrs C. M. Meredith. A box of “sixpenny surprise packets” was quickly disposed of. These brought in about £l. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs T. Dunn. A meeting of the Mauriceville-Ihu-raua Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union was held at the residence of Mrs C. R. Judd, Ihuaraua, when Mrs W. Cheetham presided over a good attendance. It was decided to hold a bazaar in October to celebrate the birthday of the branch. A meeting will be held later to make final arrangements for this. A letter of thanks was received for a donation to the lepers’ fund. Thanks were also received from a soldier in Fiji for a parcel forwarded by the branch. A quantity of wool was distributed among members to be knitted into articles for members of the Mercantile Marine. The sum of £5 was voted to the Wairarapa Provincial Council for the housekeepers’ fund and it was decided to send the branch levy of £2 to Flock House. Two new members were welcomed. Two boxes of various foodstuffs and a bag of vegetables were donated by members to be forwarded to the A.N.A. Club in Wellington. Mrs McAnulty gave a very interesting demonstration on spinning and knitting natural wool. Mrs McAnulty had many useful woollen articles on display. The wandering shilling went to Mrs Crawford. A bunch of berries competition was won by Mrs Crawford with Mrs Forsberg second. Afternoon tea was served and the meeting closed with a vote of thanks to Mrs Judd and to Mrs McAnulty.
