FIRST PAYMENT MADE IN AUSTRALIA. SUM OF NEARLY £900,000.

Almost £900,000 were paid to Australian ’ families yesterday as the first instalment of child endowment. The Minister oY Social Services (Mr Stewart) described this as “the first step towards a new order for which Australia is not waiting until the end of the war.”

Yesterday’s payment was for four weeks. The total family claims thus far number 440,921.
