EMPHATIC WARNING

SOUNDED BY BRITISH PRIME MINISTER

INVASION SEASON AT HAND

ALL ARMED FORCES ALERT.

NO DEPENDENCE ON OTHERS TO WIN WAR.

(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright)

LONDON, July 29.

Speaking in the House of Commons, the Prime Minister, Mr Churchill, declared:—“lt would be madness to suppose that Russia and the United States are going to win

the war for us. The invasion season is at hand. All the armed forces have been warned to be at

concert pitch by September 1 and

to maintain the utmost vigilance meanwhile. If we fail, all fail.”

Mr Churchill said it was evident Russia was fighting magnificently and striking back with immense effect. Help from the United States was making gigantic strides. The Battle of the Atlantic, although far from being won, was moving impressively in our favour and the position in the Nile Valley was better than it was 12 months ago or three months ago. For the time being, German air raids on Britain were on a scale that might almost be regarded as of small importance. They must not, however, be carried away by optimism, although, no doubt, there were some grounds for optimism.
