SUMMONS WINS AGAIN.

The 1940-41 racing season was brought to a close in the North Island yesterday by the Rangitikei Hunt Club, whose annual race meeting was held at Marton. The weather was changeable, sunshine being interspersed with heavy showers, and the track was very heavy, the times recorded being among the slowest of the winter period in these parts. Most of the fields were large, and they provided several surprises. In spite of these reverses, wagering was always brisk, and the investments £21,398 10s (for eight races, the maiden being divided), compared with £16,998 for seven races last year, an increase of £4400 10s. An inquiry was held after the Claremont Handicap into alleged interference with Haughty Winner, ridden by C. T. Wilson, by Sham Boy, ridden by S. Green. The committee decided that there had been crowding five furlongs from home and Green as the chief offender was cautioned.
