SAVAGE CLUB
KORERO IN MASTERTON.
AN EXCELLENT PROGRAMME.
At the korero held by the Masterton Savage Club on Saturday night in Masterton, Big Chief Price installed Savage N. W. Flemming as chief of the evening. It was the duty of the Council of the Savage Club to provide the programme, so, after the orchestra’s two well-received items, Past Chief Wilton presented a recitation in character, “The Shearer’s Dream.” This was followed by Professor F. Price “At the Mike.” Deputy Chief Perry favoured with a musical monologue. A distorted radio sketch was supplied by Savages Bilderbeck, Flemming, Harris, Pickering and Kennedy. The next item was an original one by Savages Bilderbeck and Kennedy on topical matters. Some interesting points relating to Malaya were provided by Paleface Lucock, and Savage Flemming gave a humorous talk, “How’to Achieve Extinction.” During Buttery Hatch interval, Deputy W. G. Perry proposed the toast of the visitors (G. F. Hill, Ohakea, F. N. Lucock, Malaya, and J. Kent Johnston, Masterton), which was replied to by G. F. Hill.
The second half of the programme opened with “A Picture Show” by Savage J. Harris. A song in character was given by Past Chief Wilton, and a sketch by Savages Carstens, Pickering and Bilderbeck. Anecdoies by Savage Steele were followed by a duet by Past Chiefs Wilton and Kennedy. After orchestral items, the korero concluded with the singing of the closing ode and the National Anthem.
