PETROL RATIONING

MAINTENANCE IN AUSTRALIA.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

SYDNEY, July 27.

No revision of the stringent petrol rationing scale now being imposed could bo contemplated for at least six months, said the Minister of Supply, Senator McLeay. That would be the case even assuming that the Government’s hopes of increased supplies by the allocation of additional tankers were ultimately realised. The Minister appealed to private motorists to give their cars a holiday and save petrol for the war effort. He said that it might be necessary to acquire. power to order the adoption of gas units by individuals or classes. The decision to maintain the present rationing scale is expected to result in widespread dismissals of employees of taxi companies. It is'estimated that in Sydney alone between 1200 and 1500 employees will lose their jobs.
