Mr Stuart Keith, son of Mr and Mrs Alex. Keith, Upper Plain, Masterton, entered the Air Force training camp at Levin yesterday. Mr Keith, who is well known in Masterton, was a member of the staff of the National Bank of New Zealand.

Kuripuni residents assembled on Saturday night to entertain Mr Keith Catheral, who has joined the ground staff of the Air Force. Several items were given, including a hornpipe by Jack Ryan, an Irish jig by Edna Corlett, and reciations by two children. On behalf of the gathering, Mr Carruthers presented the guest of the evening with a well-filled money belt. Messrs A. E. Bright and M. Winslade endorsed Mr Carruthers’ remarks.

The return of Mr J. G. Coates, a member of the War Cabinet, after a trip to the United States on Government business, is expected this week, according to the Acting-Prime Minister, Mr Nash. He said last night that the other New Zealand Minister’ visiting the United States, Mr Langstone, would remain there till the arrival in America of the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser. Mr Nash added that Mr Fraser would probably fly the Atlantic, at the conclusion of his visit to Britain.

The death has occurred in Dannevirke of Mr William Rose in his nine-ty-first year, after a residence of 50 years in Dannevirke. More than 50 years ago he went to Dannevirke where he established a land and commission agency. He was probably the first to start live stock sales in Southern Hawke's Bay. In addition to business pursuits Mr Rose farmed land at Taradale, Weber, Matamau and Mangatoio. He served on the Dannevirke Borough Council from 1897 to 1907.

Wing Commander H. B. Burrell, 0.8. E., officer commanding Hobsonville air base, has been transferred to Air Headquarters, Wellington. Wing Commander E. T. Hewlett, D. 5.0., 0.8. E., commanding officer at Ohakea, will take charge at Hobsonville. Squadron Leader M. F. Calder, chief flying instructor at Wigram, has been promoted to acting-wing commander and appointed to take command at Ohakea.
