RUGBY FOOTBALL

WAIRARAPA v. WELLINGTON. SOUTHERN UNION’S SUGGESTION. The management committee of the Wellington Rugby Union, at its weekly meeting last night, had before it an invitation from the Wairarapa Union to play a match in Wairarapa this season. The chairman, Mr J. N. Millard, pointed out that it was not Wellington's turn to play a match in Wairarapa this season. The cost of sending a Wellington team to Wairarapa last year had been £23 16s. It was decided to inform the Wairarapa Union that Wellington could send a representative team to play in Wairarapa on August 30, the day Wellington played Taranaki at Wellington, and to ask if the Wairarapa union considered such a match would pay expenses. Permission was granted to play the following college matches: —August 23 and 25: Dannevirke, Wairarapa, Scots and Hutt Valley, on Hutt Valley High School ground; Christ’s College, Nelson College, Wanganui College and Wellington College on Wellington. College ground.
