BIG BATTALIONS

BEATEN IN EAST AFRICA BY SMALL BRITISH FORCE. ACTUAL ODDS IN MEN & GUNS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day. 12.25 p.m.) RUGBY, July 22. It is stated in Nairobi that infantry odds of five to one and artillery odds of six to one in favour of the Italians in Somaliland and Abyssinia are disclosed in official figures published today. The strength of General Cunningham's victorious army never exceeded 20,000 infantry and 68 guns, against 96,000 Italian infantry and 400 guns. The figures disprove the Italian claim to have forced the British Empire to keep vast forces in Abyssinia.
