BROWNIE PARTY SECOND BIRTHDAY CELEBRATED. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday afternoon in the Anglican Sunday School, the Eketahuna Brownie pack celebrated its second birthday. The Brownies, under the guidance of Mrs Liardet, provided a very fine entertainment for their parents and friends. The first item was musical chairs, a game won by Audrey Brown. She was handed a parcel, which contained a large doll, in full Brownie uniform. After the singing of the National Anthem, the Brownies commenced their play. Incidental music for this was very well played by Nancy Fordyce, one of the Guides, who also played solos between the acts. In the play, “Lost, a Brownie Smile,” the chief parts were taken by Shirley Ives, Diana McAllister and Hilda Ives. The “Daisies” were Carol Bowering, Joanna Anderson, Mary Williams, Judith Ward, Patricia Wimsett, Lorraine Reid and Geraldine Ives, and "Snowflakes” were Andrew Johanson, Lois Bowering, Nancy Petersen. Margaret Hart made a very realistic pillarbox, while Kathleen Ryan, as “Mistress of the Garden,” sang her solo very sweetly. Three partly roasted chestnuts were portrayed very well by Andrew Brown, Beryl Neal and Diana McAllister. Alma Ryan as the Moon, duly rose in a starry sky. In the last scene, the Brownies were again seated in a ring, round their Brown Owl, and Toadstool. After the play, Mrs D. Fraser (president), presented the attendance stars to the Brownies as follows:—Second year: Shirley Ives, Alma Ryan, Lois Bowering; first year, Joanna Nancy Petersen, Mary "Williams. The following Guides were presented with their second-class badges: Phyllis Johanson, Jean Waterreus, Isobel Waterreus, Muriel Gray, Nancy Fordyce, Joyce Tolley, Cora Davie, Hilda Ives, Rae Fraser, Sybil Walton, Audrey Hanson, and Verna Cooper. Mrs Fraser thanked the parents for coming to the party, and paid special tribute to Mrs Liardet for her work with the Brownies. Judith Ward, the smallest Brownie, then presented Mrs Liardet with a posy of. flowers, in recognition of her organisation of the programme: During the afternoon a telegram was read from the former Tawny Owl, Miss H. Fraser, wishing the Brownies “many happy returns.” The present Tawny Owl is Miss Aileen Williams, who assisted with the concert. The birthday cake was made by Mrs Fraser. The two candles were lighted by Geraldine Ives, and blown out by Shirley Ives, Brownies who will soon leave the district. Afternoon tea was served by the ladies of the Girl Guide Committee, the Brownies sitting in their magic circle. Items by the following children concluded the programme:—Piano solo. Joanna Anderson; song. Kathleen Ryan; recitation, Audrey Brown; recitation, Geraldine Ives; piano solo, Shirley Ives; recitation, Diana McAllister. The Brownie prayer, the Brownie taps, and the Grand Howl, concluded a very enjoyable gathering. Personal Items. Mrs W. L. Cresswell, Worser Bay, is the guest of Miss N. Greathead, Bridge Street. Sister M. L. Palmer, of the N.Z.A.N.S., Wellington, was the guest of Mrs J. E. Monaghan, Newman, during the
