CARTERTON

ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS LOYAL HEART OF OAK LODGE. ("Times-Age” Special.) The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Heart of Oak Odd Fellows was held last evening and was presided over by P.G. Bro. H. J. Rathbone. One member declared on the lodge sick fund. Reports were handed in concerning the two oldest members, Bros. J. W. Hart and J. W. Fensham, and another member’ who has just been discharged from hospital. Sick pay amounting to £25 3s 4d and other accounts totalling £79 12s 3d were passed for payment. Home Guard Convoy. The convoy for B Company, Carterton, in the Home Guard field day on Sunday, consisted of nine vehicles as follows: —No. 1 Company, Headquarters, W. R. Harry’s car; No. 3, W.F.C.A. JLtd.’s lorry; No. 4, Mr A. M. Paterson’s lorry; Nos. 2 and 5, Mr Ben Sewells two school buses; No. 6, Mr J. A. Roberts’s lorry; No. 7, Wairarapa South County’s lorry; No. 8, Mr F. Yules’s truck; No. 9, Messrs Hughan Ltd.’s truck. Personal Items. Mr K. N. Saywell, "Riverlea,” Western Lake, Featherston, is not enjoying good health and at last night’s meeting of the Loyal Heart of Oak Lodge it was resolved that the secretary write a letter of sympathy to him. Mr J. G. Oates, who has been an inmate of the Croydon Hospital, has returned to his home at Parkvale. Lady Galway Guild. Members of the Carterton Lady Galway Guild have two well made patchwork quilts on view in the window of the shop adjoining Stubbs’s pharmacy. They will be on exhibition for a few days before being dispatched to the Lady Galway Guild, Wellington, and later forwarded to England. The Carterton Guild appeal to anyone who has waste material of any description to send it to Miss Wolters, in order that Guild members may make further quilts for dispatch to England. The appeal is a worthy one and should commend itself to housewives. • Canteen of Cutlery. A canteen of cutlery is on view in a window of the shop of Messrs Feist and Co. It is to be raffled to provide funds for the Carterton branch of the Red Cross Society.
