“CHURCHILL” TANK

NEW AND POWERFUL WEAPON NAMED MOST FORMIDABLE IN ANY ARMY. HITTING POWER AND HEAVY ARMOUR. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, July 20. The “Churchill'’ is a name that has been specially chosen by the Minister of Supply, Lord Beaverbrook, for a new type heavy infantry tank which is now being mass-produced in British factories. The “Churchills” are probably the most formidable fighting instruments possessed by any army in the world. They are heavily armoured, giving maximum protection to the crews, but in spite of their weight they are able to move over any kind of ground at startling speed. Terrific gunpower is concentrated in the minimum of space, and it is unlikely that many enemy machines exist that could stand up for long to their devastating fire. If for any reason the “Churchills” were brought to a standstill the thickness of their armour would enable them to be used as small fortresses or strongpoints. The Prime Minister is one of the very few civilians who have ridden in this type of tank.
