Play, which was hard at times, was confined, for the most part, to the forwards but there were occasional flashes cf bright back play. Wairarapa had the advantage in the scrums and lineouts but the fast breaking Bush forwards prevented the local backs from going into action. The Bush defence was solid and Wairarapa’s tackling was excellent. In the closing stages of the second spell Hood (Wairarapa) was injured and was replaced by M. J. Parker. Bush opened the scoring when Woolland crossed Wairarapa’s goal line from a melee. The kick failed. Wairarapa drew level shortly afterward when Mahupuku kicked a penalty goal, making the half-tim'e score three all. 'ln the second spell Wairarapa’s winger, M. Hurley secured the ball and centred for Hood to go over for a good try. Mahupuku’s kick was successful. Wairarapa 8, Bush 3. Bush attacked and from a scrum Wairarapa was penalised. Hill kicked a penalty for Bush. Wairarapa 8, Bush 6. Bush won the game when Hunt made an opening for the winger, G. Lennard, who scored in a handy position. RED STAR BEAT CARTERTON A. On Saturday, at Carterton, the Red Star third grade fifteen, playing better football than Carterton, defeated the home team by 16 points to 5. Tries for Red Star were scored by H. Golder . (2), F. Roys and C. Roys, two being converted by Colin Reid. The Carterton score was a converted try. Mr W. Spooner refereed. FOURTH GRADE.
