MANAWATU HUNT MEETING STEEPLES TO SON & HEIR. HUNT CUP WON BY DAUBER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, July 20. The success of the annual race meeting of the Manawatu Hunt Club, held at Awapuni on Saturday, exceeded the most sanguine expectations. A tremendous crowd assembled from far and near, attracted by the good card and the fine weather, and they simply overwhelmed all the facilities. Race books, though printed in excess of last year’s record meeting by 2000, were sold out before the first race, and the totalisator under the win and place system simply could not cope with the business. Hundreds of pounds were shut out on each race, yet the turnover nearly doubled on last year. The turnover for the day reached £34,864 (win £16,352 10s, place £18,511 10s). Last year, which was the previous record, the sum of £18,790 10s went through on seven races under single pool. On the Saturday at the recent Manawatu Racing Club’s winter meeting, £24,965 10s was handled. Results: —
