INDOOR BASKETBALL
TOURNAMENT ON SATURDAY NIGHT MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP WON BY VESTAS. RESULTS OF VARIOUS EVENTS. The most successful indoor basketball tournament yet held in Masterton took place on Saturday evening before a large attendance in the Municipal Hall. The tournament was conducted by the Wairarapa Interhouse Association Committee and all games were run to schedule, thanks to the efforts of the association’s secretary, Mr D. Costello. The various officials for the day were: Time-keepers and scorers, Messrs G. Davis, R. Pawson and F. Stains; team steward. Mr I. McChesney; records, Mr A. Callister; referees, Messrs D. Minifie, D. Cfiirns and D. Costello, Mrs H. Piper (Wellington) and Mr H. Piper (of the Physical Welfare and Recreation Branch of the Department of Internal Affairs, Wellington); door-keepers, Messrs G. Daubney and F. Graham. These officials worked hard to make the tournament a success. Thanks were extended to the members of Bouzaids team for erecting the goals and marking the floor. The results of the various grade games are as follow:— Ladies’ senior A: Lancers beat Banks 20/8; Woolworths beat Garages 14/0; Garages beat Banks 11/6; Lancers .beat W.F.C.A. 12/6. Final: Woolworths boat Lancers 3/2. Ladies’ senior B: McKenzies beat Rovers 10/7; Codys boat McDuffs 17/8; McDuffs beat Rovers 9/8; Codys beat Cathies 15/5; State Kitchenette beat McKenzies 18/5; McKenzies beat Cathies 11/7. Final: Codys beat State Kitchenette 6/4. Ladies’ junior: Rangers B beat Tattons 9/2; Rangers A beat State B 14/4; Sparklets beat Rangers B 12/6; State B beat Tattons 9/5. Final: Rangers A beat Sparklets 10/4. Men’s A grade: Vesta Batteries beat Woolworths 30/22; Bouzaids beat State Kitchenette 18/17; State Kitchenette beat Woolworths 24/8; Vesta Batteries beat W.F.C.A. 12/3. Final: Vesta Batteries beat Bouzaids 18/13. Next Saturday a quadrangular tournament between teams from Wellington. Hutt Valley, Palmerston North and Masterton will be held in the Municipal Hall.
