STATE THEATRE

NEW ZEALANDERS IN GREECE. One of the best programmes ever seen at the State Theatre was presented. last night when outstanding pictures of a patriotic character were shown. New Zealand troops, including Maoris, were to be seen in a series of thrilling “shots” of the operations in Greece. The retirement from Greece was vividly portrayed and there were numerous close up pictures of hundreds of New Zealanders. Another picture which also brought forth rounds of applause from the. audience was “our New Britain,” depicting actual scenes during air raids over London. The film describes how after the last war Britain was rebuilt but “forgot Hitler.” The other supports, together with the main picture “Scotland Yard,” made up a programme which the audience' greatly appreciated. “Scotland Yard” is an exciting and fast-moving mystery play set against a background of wartime London. An outstanding cast includes Edmund Gwenn as a dogged Scotland Yard inspector,- Henry Wilcoxon as a bank robber, John Loder as Sir John, a wealthy banker, and Nancy Kelly as his wife. It is ope of the best stories ever brought to the screen at the State Theatre, and the acting was brilliant throughout.
