The conversation had turned to books. Out of politeness a stranger was asked his opinion. “I do lots of reading,” he said. “In fact, I read practically all day long.” “What kind of things do you read?” “Well, as a matter of fact, I scan meters, mostly light stuff.” “Ah,” said one, “a light-verse reader. Are you a critic or publisher?” “Critic! Why, I do it for the electric company.”
