FOUNDATIONS

SOME USEFUL ADVICE. The “only stand and wait” attitude has no appeal for the war-time women of today. Most of them are doing something active beyond the home or the job, knitting,'part-time nursing, forming auxiliary forces and running charity effdrls. And those who haven’t managed to get into anything very spectacular are casting around at home for little ways to save and help. Now there is one economy which could be pointed out—if it doesn’t at first look like an economy. When you buy foundations, always buy at least two at a time. They will last then, with alternative wear, about as long as three corsets worn out one at a time. This is because the fine lastretch or any silk elastic insets recover theii’ first springiness if time off is allowed. Foundations worn perpetually are not given a chance. Perspiration in time spoils not only the stretchable materials, but the beautiful ’silks, "satins, net, faille, and other materials the best corset makers employ. Foundations should also be washed before they look really soiled —washed in cool water, good suds, many rinsings, and dried away from strong heat. With at least two pairs, there is no,need to wear them long enough to risk their materials or your personal daintiness. Talc powder also absorbs perspiration and adds to their days of usefulness. Talc not only yourself well, but shake talc into the foundations when they are taken off, and hang them in an airy place. Foundations should not be rolled up at night. So jot down an appointment with the corsetiere in your engagement book. You will be saving shillings and getting the utmost service out of your most necessary garments.
