SHIPPING LOSSES
THE FIGURES FOR JUNE LOWEST FOR TWELVE MONTHS. ADMIRALTY INTIMATION. LONDON. July 15. Shipping losses for June were announced today by the Admiralty, and are the lowest for any month of the past 12 months. They totalled 7!) ships of 339.296 tons. Of these 54 were British and 19 allied. These figures represent a decrease of 25 ships and 168,531 tons on the May losses. The monthly average losses for the war are 324,000 tons, including losses during the Dunkirk and Greek evacuations. Shipping losses for the war are 1738 ships of 7,118.122 tons. Of these. 1078 are British of 4,605,132 tons. During June, Axis reports claimed to have sunk 125 British and Allied ships of 876,782 tons. Enemy shipping losses for the war have been very severe. Up to July 10. 3,391,000 tons have been sunk. In presenting these figures’ the Admiralty announces that it is not proposed to continue their publication at regular intervals in the future as they may be a means of conveying essential information to the enemy. From time to time, however, statements will be made on the position.
