HARRIER ACTIVITIES
MASTERTON CLUB JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. NOTES ON THE RUNNING. (Contributed.) In connection with the Masterton Harrier Club's junior championship event on Saturday some good running was witnessed. The course, 3 1-8 miles, proved to be a true test of harrier running under bad conditions. Going off to a fast start, M. Doyle, P. Greenlees, D. Wickens and D. Cairns were bunched together over the first mile. Going into the open country M. Doyle, who revelled in the conditions, drew ahead of P. Greenlees, who was going well/ and D. Cairns. Coming on to the Te Ore Ore Road Doyle had a lead of 100 yards from P. Greenlees with D. Wickens and D. Cairns close up. Doyle had increased his lead by the time the Park Oval was reached with D. Wickens making up a lot of ground to ..bring him close to Greenlees with D. Cairns following. At the tape, which M. Doyle breasted first, the last man was only 330 yards behind with the others in between.
The following were the placings and times:—M. Doyle, 20.39, 1; P. Greenlees. 21.16, 2; D. Wickens, 21.33, 3; D. Cairns, 21.47, 4. Doyle ran a splendid race and should improve considerably as the season advances. Greenlees and Wickens ran exceptionally well. The following were the sealed handicap results, the points counting for the J. Robertson Cup:—D. Wickens, 20.23, 1: M. Doyle, 20.39, 2; D. Cairns, 20.47, 3; P. Greenlees, 21.1, 4.
