Jumping perfectly all the way, National Debt won the Grand National Steeplechase at Flemington on Saturday. Police are investigating the doping of the favourite. Cheery Jack, who was scratched after a veterinary steward reported that the horse was unfit to race. The chairman of the V.R.C., Sir Allan Currie, has given orders that no expense is to be spared to .rack down the culprits. Results include: — Grand National Steeplechase, about 3m. and a furlong: National Debt. 10.10 (Kenny), 1; Brightello, 10.10 (Regan), 2; Sachem, 9.3 (Jennings). 3. One length and a half; four. Time, 6.6|. July Handicap, about Im.: Con Naru, 7.9 (Williamson), 1; Grandson, 8.10 (Hope), 2; Orcadian, 7.10 (Crossingham), 3. One length; one and threequarters. Time, 1.40. Braybrook Handicap, about 14m.: Somerset, 7.5 (Unkovich), 1; Rivette, 9.3 (Preston), 2; Sonofaurous, 7.9 (Olsen), 3. Half a head; two lengths. Time, 2.35}.
