STOCK MARKET

SALE AT FEILDING MUTTON PRICES FIRMER. STRONG DEMAND FOR CATTLE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) FEILDING. July 11. A very strong market was shown at Feilding today, when a moderate sized yarding of fairly good quality stock came forward. The mutton section was well supplied with lambs and wethers, being in good finish. The price for both showed a rise on last week, and ewes also were a shade firmer. The whole of the entry was cleared at auction. In the store sheep pens a big jump in price for in-lamb ewes was seen, the market being strong throughout. Just on 30s was paid for mixed age ewes from six-tooth to four-year, while good two-tooths made 355. Best quality 4 and 5-year ewes were in strong demand up to 21s, while 6-year ewes went to 14s 6d. The demand for ewe hoggets was also strong, with the supply limited. Best sorts sold at 26s 6d to 275, wether hoggets in fair condition made 17s 6d, and black faces 16s 2d. Forward-conditioned wethers sold well up to 225. Inquiry for slaughtering cattle was again strong, with buyers from outside districts taking practically the whole supply. Rising 4-year A.A. steers realised to £8 Is, and best 2£-year of like breed £7 17s. Two and a half-year A.A. heifers brought £5 Is, and 18-months A.A. heifers £3 2s. Steers of the same age and breed changed hands at £4 3s, while empty A.A. cows brought £4 10s, and others, r.w.b., to £4 4s. Another good sale took place for a moderately heavy supply of dairy stock.

Cows in good order and at drop sold at £lO 17s 6d, and lesser quality springing heifers at £9 17s 6d. The quality of the beef yarded was rather patchy, but for first-grade.the demand was strong, with prices right up to late rates. Medium weight ox made £lO 17s 6d, and extra prime cows £9 7s 6d. Heifers were on the light side and only reached £8 2s 6d. Inquiry for pigs was keen. Good weaners made from 14s 6d to 16s; small. 10s 6d; slips. 19s to 20s; large stores, 435; porkers, 565.
