FUTURE DANGERS

SEEN BV SIR E. WRENCH NEW ZEALAND’S NEED OF POPULATION. POST-WAR IMMIGRATION ADVOCATED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, July 11. "The future of New Zealand is full of dangerous possibilities,” said Sir Evelyn Wrench, founder of the Overseas League, in an address at the Town Hall last night. Sir . Evelyn spoke forcibly on the need for postwar immigration. "On my return to New Zealand after 28 years, I find the same lovely country so richly endowed and not troubled with pestilence and plague,” said Sir Evelyn. "I am not talking about governments. (Laughter). However, I feel an atmosphere of slight apprehension in that people may not be satisfied with the future. The world is a very insecure place today and we see one civilisation after another being pulled down. The population of Japan is increasing enormously and its people are casting covetous eyes southward. “There is a need to stir the public conscience here so that the post-war immigration of youth can be increased. It is not a party question. It is a question of human lives. It is a worthwhile matter for all parties in New Zealand and experts should formulate some scheme to this end.”
