Electric Power to be Cut Off.
The electric power will be cut oft’ tomorrow from 1 p.m. to 3.30 p.m. in the district between Waingawa and Greytown, including the Carterton borough, in order to allow urgent repairs to be carried out. Prisoners of War. The Postmaster-General, Mr Webb, announced last night that a leaflet dealing with communication with prisoners of war abroad had been prepared and was now available at all principal post offices. "Persons who contemplate communicating with prisoners of war should, before doing so, obtain a copy of the leaflet, which gives full particulars of the many conditions to be complied with,’ said Mr Webb. "Unless all the conditions are fulfilled letters are liable to be stopped." Instruction by Films.
In order to assist the E.P.S. anc. Home Guard movements locally, Mr H. Newton, publicity manager for the Shell Co., is coming to Masterton with his mobile film unit on Tuesday, August 26, when he will show films to the members of these units and others. Titles of the films are: National Defence, Air Raid Precautions and Perils, Incendiary Bomb Training, Wav and Order, Working Warden’s Post, Behind the Guns, Team Training and Rescue Work. Arrangements are to be made for the films to be shown in a suitable hall.

On Wednesday next, July 16, the public will be given a chance of hearing Mr J. D. McMillan, Director of the Economic Research Association speak in the afternoon at a meeting of the League of Mothers, and in the evening at 7.30 o’clock at the Y.M.C.A. Lounge. Mr McMillan is the Director of a movement which has as its purpose a diagnosis of existing conditions, in order to find for them a remedy in conformity with the eternal laws of God. The Economic Research Association hopes to organise unity of action on the part of clergymen and laymen of all denominations, and to mobilise the forces of Christianity against the war of pagan ideologies. All interested in world reconstruction are invited to attend this meeting which.has been arranged by the local branch of the League of Nations Union.
