GOLF COMPETITIONS CAMPBELL AND DOUGHTY CUPS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The third round of the Campbell Cup competition was played on Saturday. The following were the best cards handed in:—D. Tikao, 86, 14, 72; M. Herangi, 85, 12, 73; S. Thomas, 95, 19, 76; W. Charteris, 100, 24, 76; J. Riwai, 89, 11, 78; N. Hume, 99, 21, 78. S. Hall, who has returned two cards of 66 and 69, appears to have a good hold on the cup, having a lead of ten strokes on his nearest opponent. The best scores in the Rose Bowl competition were: —Mrs Herangi, 77; Mrs Bragg, 79; Mrs Sutherland, 82; Mrs Carter, 84; Mrs Tikao, 87; Mrs McKenzie, 92; Mrs Thomas, 93. Playing at the weekend S. Thomas accounted for N. Hume in a Doughty Cup match. Both played exceptionally well, the putting especially being brilliant. Thomas, in particular, is playing well this season and judging by his recent efforts he should be hard to beat in the qualifying round of the championship. The following is the draw for the fourth round of the Campbell Cup to be played on Saturday:—D. Tikao v. M. McLeod; J. Carter v. S. Thomas; M. Waiwera v. M. Herangi; F. Lovegrove v. C. Carter: N. Hume v. S. Hall; G. Sutherland v. W. Charteris; J. Riwai v. T. Hume; H. Matakatea v. R. Lovegrove.

The draw for the fourth round of the Rose Bowl is:—Mrs Bragg v. Mrs McKenzie; Mrs Herangi v. Mrs Thomas; Mrs Tikao v. Mrs Sutherland; Mrs Carter a bye. Cars will leave at 9 a.m. Personal Items. Mr Frank Busch has returned from a visit to Wellington. Mr N. Hume is visiting Wellington as the guest of Mr Norman Allen. Messrs J. Sutton and D. Didsbury, who have been visiting Wellington, have returned home. Miss B. Cock, who has been in Auckland for some time, has returned home. The death occurred at Petone of Mr John Richardson, who for a long period was a resident of this district. The late Mr Richardson,' after leaving the district, settled at Petone, where he married. Tne funeral took place on Tuesday. Advice has been received that Leading Aircraftman Martin Hume, who is now in Canada, was the first of the contingent of 33 which left here in April to qualify as a pilot of one of the big bombers. Mr Peter Hume has entered the Trentham Camp for training for overseas service. Mr lan Sutherland, eldest son of Mr and Mrs Gilbert Sutherland, has received advice of his acceptance for training for the Air Force. Miss Lulu Te Maari, Wanganui, is visiting her mother, Mrs T. Te Maari, Kohunui. Messrs E. Taurau and W. Enoka visited Gladstone at the weekend to attend a parish conference of the Mormon Church. Whitebait. Small quantities of whitebait are being netted at the Lake Ferry. Church Service. A Church of England service was held in the Memorial Hall on Sunday. Gold and Green Bail. The committee of the Gold and Green Ball will shortly meet to consider whether the annual function is to be held this year. Home Guard. .The local Home Guard under the command of Mr E. C. Holmes, carried out manoeuvres in the Kahutara district at the weekend.
