The Associated Press of Great Britain Vichy correspondent reported that a Syrian armistice has been . signed, but there is no confirmation of this in London. The British United Press Vichy correspondent says it is officially announced that the French Government has authorised General Dentz to seek an armistice. Another message states that tne Vichy Government authorised negotiations" for an armistice owing to the impossibility of sending adequate re inforcements to Syria. BRITISH CASUALTIES TOTAL OF ABOUT 1,500. EARLIER REPORT CORRECTED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.55 p.m.) RUGBY, July 9. The figure of nearly 2,500 British, Australian and Indians soldiers killed or wounded in Syria given in an earlier message, is incorrect. The actual figure is 1,500.
