BRITISH SUBJECTS
RESIDENT IN FRANCE I EXPELLED FROM SOUTH COAST AREAS. GIVEN CHOICE OF OTHER DEPARTMENTS. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) RUGBY, July 9. Information has been received through the United States Embassy that instructions have been issued by the Vichy Government that all British subjects, with certain exceptions, now residing in the Departments of Bouches' du Rhone, Var and Alpes Maritimes Coastal, must leave those Departments within eight days, dating it is assumed from July 3. They may freely choose their place of residence in any of eight named Departments adjoining the coastal region. There are between 3,000 and 4,000 British subjects in unoccupied France, most of whom are on the Mediterranean coast, either in the Marseilles district or the Riviera. A majority, for various reasons, prefer to stay. A small number, probably one in five, are ready and anxious to leave, and, with the exception of men of military age, Vichy will not hinder them. ,
