LABOUR PARTY
MASTERTON WOMEN’S BRANCH. PREPARATIONS FOR ELECTION CAMPAIGN. The July meeting of the Masterton Women’s Branch of the Labour Party was one of the most enthusiastic held for some time. There was a good attendance and members were keen to begin the election campaign. The president, Mrs J. Robertson, moved a motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Captain W. J. Lyons and Sergt. McWhinnie, who were killed in action, also with the relatives of Mrs Evans, who had been a foundation member of the branch. It was decided to send a letter to Mrs E. J. Coleman expressing the wish that she would soon have good news of her son Graham, Avho had been reported missing, also expressing regret at Mr and Mrs Coleman's departure from Masterton. The parcels' committee reported having sent ten parcels to members’ sons and husbands overseas. The funds of the branch were reported to be in a very satisfactory state and it was decided to forward £5O to head office for campaign purposes. Members compaign subscriptions were also coming in very well. The Red Cross report was given by Mrs Edwards and members were asked to help in staffing an emergency hospital. Several names were submitted for this purpose. Mesdames Page and BannisteiM-e--ported several visits to the hospital and made an appeal for books and papers. The Labour Representation Committee report was given by Mrs Copp, who asked for suggestions for the election campaign. Several new members were welcomed, and Mrs Robertson expressed pleasure of the branch in having back with them Mesdames Blake and Gray, who had been absent through illhealth. . , An apology for absence was received from Mrs Hair. Afternoon tea brought an enjoyable meeting to a close.
