BADMINTON
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION ACTIVITIES ANNUAL MEETING 'HELD LAST NIGHT. GAME TO BE CONTINUED. An unanimous decision to carry on the activities of the association despite the many difficulties arising from war conditions was made at the annual meeting of the Wairarapa Badminton Association held in Masterton last night. The president, Mr E. K. Eastwood presided. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, Mr Eastwood congratulated the executive on the way it had carried on during the past season. Its decision to carry on had proved an admirable one. He expressed his personal congratulations to players who had gained representative honours. He considered it was unfortunate that the New Zealand championships had been abandoned for the duration of the war. in that Mr P. Hawksworth (former triple Dominion championship title-holder) would have been able to show that he was still New Zealand’s leading player. Members considered the finances of the association to be in a healthy state and satisfaction was expressed with the year’s activities as shown in the annual report. It was decided to place on record appreciation of Mr Eastwood’s services. Reference was also made to the keen interest and the hard work carried: out by Mr H. M. A. Major since the tion of the association. The secretary was instructed to send him a letter thanking him for his work. It was decided to abandon the interclub competition this season and to hold friendly club matches. It was reported that sufficient shuttles would be available for this season, at a, cost of 26s per dozen. Consideration was given to a notice of motion given by Mr W. L. Harrington (St. Matthew's) that affiliation fees payable by clubs to the association be waived for the duration of the war. The motion was carried unanimously. The secretary was instructed to advise all clubs accordingly. Non-affi-liated clubs would be required to make application for affiliation. The president,. Mr Eastwood, intimated that he would not seek re-elec-tion.
Mr P. Hawksworth paid tribute to the work carried out by Mr Eastwood in the interests of the game. His work as secretary and subsequently as president had been of great benefit to the association.
