Kenneth Harold Garside ,of Masterton, a lorry driver, has been adjudged a bankrupt. A meeting of creditors is to be held at the Masterton Courthouse on Tuesday next at 10 a.m; Early Lambing Season. The lambing season is progressing favourably in the Waikato, and on the farm of Mr L. E. Rice, Te Roro, there are now 55 lambs,'2o of which were born a month ago. Lambs are now to be seen on most farms in the district. Clock’s Long Service. After 45 years’ service an old clock on the wall in the Masterton County Council Chambers is to be replaced. The County Clerk, Mr J. C. D. Mackley, stated at yesterday’s meeting of the council that the clock had been bought in 1896 for £2. It was suggested that the clock should be sold for scrap. inquest Last Night.* An inquest into the death of Mr Malcolm Campbell, Te Ore Ore, was held in Masterton last night. The district coroner, Mr E. G. Eton, presided. After evidence had been given by Mrs Campbell, by an employee and Dr. Archer Hosking, a verdict that death was due to coronary thrombosis was returned. Employer' Convicted. According to a decision given by Mr Miller, S.M., in the Magistrates’ Court, Hastings, yesterday, employers may not discharge employees in expectancy of their rendering military service. The decision given by the magistrate is of wide interest to employers throughout the Dominion. The magistrate had reserved his decision in the case, which was begun last week. The inspector of awards, Mr W. J. Berryman, proceeded against William Innes Campbell, a partner in the firm of H. H. Campbell and Sons, for terminating the employment of an employee in expectancy of his rendering military service. The magistrate found in favour of informant, and at the request of Mr W. E. Bate, counsel for defendant, the question of penalty was deferred for a week.
