WAIRARAPA UNION FIXTURES FOR SATURDAY. REFEREES APPOINTED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following are the Wairarapa Rugby Union’s fixtures and referees for Saturday:— Senior. Featherston v Carterton, at Featherston, 2.30 p.m.; E. Grantham. Red Star v Gladstone, at Memorial Park, 2.30 p.m.; H. Reid. Masterton v Greytown, at Greytown, 2.30 p.m.; R. Dawson. Third Grade A. Old Boys v Carterton, Memorial No. 2, 2.30 p.m.; H. McKay. College v Red Star, at Memorial Park No. 1, 1.30 p.m.; W. Percy. Masterton a bye. Third Grade B. Martinborough v Featherston, at Martinborough. 2.30 p.m.; W. Workman. Carterton v Dalefield, at Carterton, 2.30 p.m.; W. Spooner. Fourth Grade. Masterton v Carterton, at Carterton. 1.30 p.m.; H. J. McKenzie. College v Martinborough, at Martinborough, 1.30 p.m.; W. Workman. MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING LAST NIGHT. The fortnightly meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Rugby Football Union was held in Carterton last evening. Mr K. G. Fairbrother (president) presided. There, were also present Messrs V. Welch, S. Henson, F. Morton, R. Howard, E. B. Booth, M. J. Parker, F. B. Brough, J. T. Scott and the secretary-treasurer, Mr H. A. McPhee. An apology for absence was tendered by Mr Gordon Udy. A vote of condolence was carried in silence in respect to the death of A. R. Steffert. The chairman stated that deceased, who had played for Wairarapa, was a very good half-back, and that he had always been a thorough gentleman on and off the field of play. The treasurer reported a credit balance at the bank of £lB2 3s lid, with a further credit in the Post Office Bank of £7 9s 9d. Accounts amounting to £42 were passed for payment, including insurance payments to injured members. The Nev/ Zealand Rugby Union wrote stating that the application to reinstate A. J. Butler from League to Rugby had been agreed to. Butler will play for Featherston. It was decided that the representative game with Wanganui be played at Wanganui on Saturday, August. 2. Mr M. Welch was thanked for his donation of an art union ticket to the Wairarapa Union. The Carterton Club wrote drawing 1 the Union’s attention to the state ol No. 2 playing area at Carterton on June 28. The letter was received. Mr K. H. Reid was appointed manager of the Wairarapa team to play Bush at Pahiatua. It was agreed that the team travel by bus and that the appointment of a referee be left to the secretary. It was resolved that an “Old-timers’ match” with Hawke's Bay be played at Carterton on August 2. Votes, of thanks were accorded to the Masterton delegates for the arrangements they had made in connection with the Hawke’s Bay-Wairarapa match, and to the Wairarapa College Scottish'Pipe Band for having supplied music before the game and during the interval.
It was decided that the Wellington Union be tvritten to asking for a return match with Wairarapa this season. Complimentary remarks were made concerning the uniform of the Wairarapa players in the match against Hawke’s Bay. The treasurer stated that the gate takings at the Hawke’s Bay-Wairarapa representative game had amounted to £BO 3s 6d, an increase over the 1940 total of £24 2s 6d. The next meeting will be on July 21.
