COURSING
NORTH ISLAND CUP MEETING EXCELLENT DAY'S SPORT. EVERY HARE REACHES ESCAPES. Yesterday a further stage was advanced in the meeting controlled by the Wairarapa Coursing Club when the first and second rounds of the Northern Purse and the first and third rounds of the Plate and North Island Cup, respectively, were run off. An outstanding feature of the meeting was the excellent form of the hares, which during the whole afternoon led the dogs a merry dance and by dexterous turning put the greyhounds off their balance time and time again, to reach the escape safely. Every hare slipped reached sanctuary and it is considered by the officials to be the best day’s coursing ever seen at Akura. There were several surprises, especially the convincing win of a brilliant young dog. The Admiral, owned and trained by Mr J. Hanley and running in the nomination of Mr J. Bradbury. A spectacular course was seen when Back Loop Slam, after being well led to the hare by All Cash, scored a convincing win in a fast working course. Two Masterton dogs will meet two Hastings dogs in the semi-finals of the Cup this afternoon. Results: — Northern Purse.
