The Hon. P. C. Webb. Minister of Mines, left Wellington last night for Blackball. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, returned to Wellington yesterday after a visit to southern Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa. The Hon. R. Semple, Minister of National Service and Transport, is in Christchurch. He is not expected back in Wellington till the middle of next week. Sergeant Observer D. B. Annesley, formerly of Carterton, who learned aviation, at the aerodrome at Masterton, is reported missing from operations over Germany. The Hon. J. G. Barclay, Minister of Marketing and Agriculture, will leave Wellington for Auckland tomorrow night and will take part in the Waitemata by-election campaign. Mr W. R. McKean, senior stipendiary magistrate at Auckland, retired yesterday. Mr McKean was appointed to the Bench in July, 1919, and went to Auckland in the following year. Mr H. E. Vaughan yesterday resigned from the position of Clerk to the Clifton County Council which he has held continuously for 43 years, a record for Taranaki. His term of office has seldom been excelled in the Dominion.

In a letter to friends in Masterton, Private L. E. Emery (former manager of the “Daily Times” Job Printing Department) advises that he is fit and well. He states that he has met many Mastertonians overseas, including Privates R. Foster (formerly an employee of the "Daily Times” job printing staff) and J. Jenkin. Mr. A. Tooby, of the staff of the Lansdowne School, who will go into camp at Trentham today for service overseas, was met by the teachers and children yesterday and made a presentation of a money belt and an encased shaving outfit with a leather letter case. The presentation was made by the headmaster, Mr. J. W. T. Jones, who stated that although Mr. Tooby had only been at the school for five months he had endeared himself to the children, and the keen interest he had taken in sport was much appreciated. Mr. Tpoby would leave the school with the best wishes of all concerned. Mr Tooby was entertained at morning tea by the staff.
