IHURAUA
WOMEN’S DIVISION MEETING- OF SEWING GUILD. (“Times-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Ihuraua Women’s Sewing Guild held under the auspices of the Mauriceville-Ihuraua branch of the W.D.F.U., took place at the residence of Mrs C. M. Meredith, Tikitapu, recently, when Mrs E. Dagg presided over a splendid attendance. Mrs W. Cheetham, president of the Mauriceville-Ihuraua Women's Division of the Farmers’ Union, was also present. The report and balance sheet were considered very satisfactory. Mrs Dagg gave a brief outline of the year’s work. Approximately 170 garments had been sent away for refugees and 80 garments for the Red Cross Society besides a number of needle-cases, she said. Mrs Dagg thanked all those who had helped the guild during the year, and made special mention of the Ihuraua School pupils.
The election of officers resulted in the re-election of the whole committee with Mrs E. H. Dagg as chairwoman and Miss M. E. Dagg as secretary. During the afternoon nearly thirty garments were- handed in including two bed quilts. Several donations were' acknowledged, one of £5 being from Mr C. R. Judd. ,
A “lucky” competition was won by W. Cheetham. The prize for this was given by Mrs Judd. A “bring and buy” stall was soon sold out, the sum of £2 4s 7d being thus raised.
Fourteen parcels for soldiers serving overseas from Ihuraua were made up during the afternoon. • Afternoon tea was served and a vote of thanks passed to Mrs Meredith for her hospitality. The next meeting will be held at the residence of Mrs Pickering. Teacher Fareweiled. A pleasant function took place when parents and pupils gathered at the ihuraua School to bid farewell to Mrs C. L. Gregory on the eve of her departure to take up teaching duties at Mangamutu. During the afternoon a much appreciated impromptu concert ■was staged by the pupils.
On behalf of the school committee the chairman, Mr C. R. Judd, spoke of the high standard of work by the pupils during the four years of Mrs Gregory’s supervision. Mr R. C. F. Dagg, speaking on behalf of the parents, endorsed Mr Judd's remarks, and asked Mrs Gregory to’ accept a tea-set as a small token of the esteem of the parents. Mrs Gregory was also presented .with a salad bowl and servers and a ( bouquet by Jean Udy and Josephine Judd, respectively. After being accorded musical honours Mrs Gregory suitably replied. The ladies present dispensed afternoon tea and the gathering closed with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”’
