ST LUKE’S CHURCH MEETING OF LADIES’ GUILD. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of St. Luke’s Anglican Ladies’ Guild was held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon. Canon Sykes presided over a fair attendance of members.Canon Sykes expressed thanks to Mr H. Trotman for the new bench erected in the Parish Hall free or charge. Mrs Vinsen was welcomed as a new member. Mrs F. Wood offered to arrange the church flowers during July. The Ladies’ Guild donated £1 to the fund for providing soldiers’ parcels. New kneelers have been placed in the church, at the Communion rail. Miss Stephens was thanked for making the necessary arrangements for the same to be made. The secretary reported that the arrangements for the Halloween Fair to be held at the end of October were well in hand. Mrs F. Wood and Miss Tate were the hostesses for the afternoon tea. METHODIST CHURCH LADIES’ GUILD MEETING. The monthly meeting of the Greytown Method’ist Ladies’ Guild was held at the residence of Mrs A. Ross, Main Street, on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs F. M. Gray presided in the absence of Mrs Sadler. An invitation was accepted by members to meet Mrs Taylor, of Feilding, on Thursday afternoon in connection with M.W.M. Union work.
The thought for the month was given by Mrs Knowles Smith. Afternoon tea was provided by members. Mrs Ross was thanked for the use of her home in which to hold the meeting. Plunket Society Bridge Party. The Plunket Society’s fortnightly bridge parties are still popular. Mrs Nicholson registered the highest score at-bridge on Tuesday afternoon. Junior Red Cross Society. The members of the Lady Galway Guild, who meet weekly, were delighted at receiving a parcel from the Junior- Red Cross Society, working under Miss Keddell.' The contents consisted of warm woollies, knitted by the children, and of slippers made from felt. The message delivered with the parcel was a proof of sympathy with small sufferers in England. It ran: “These are for the children in the bombed areas, from the Junior Red Cross.”
