Mr R. B. Reynolds has been appointed secretary-manager of the Civil Service Club in Wellington. He replaces Mr W. H. Chittey, who has resigned after occupying the position for 11 years.
The death occurred in Dunedin on Tuesday of Mr James E. Macassey. manager of the Dunedin branch of A. S. Paterson and Co for thirty years. Mr Macassey. who was a brother of the late Mr Percy Macassey, formerly Crown Prosecutor in Wellington, was a member of a well-known Dunedin family. For some years after leaving school Mr Macassey was a resident of Hawke's Bay, where he rose to be manager for Messrs Williams and Kettle. During that period he was a keen cricketer, and played for Hawke’s Bay on several occasions. Mr Macassey was 64 years of age. Members of combined office and departmental staff of the Masterton Borough Council met last evening to entertain one of their number, Mr Alan Green, who is leaving’for a further period of military instruction before eventually going on active service. On behalf of the staff, Mr G. T. O’Hara Smith (Town Clerk) advised Mr Green to make the most of the forthcoming happy hours of military training that awaited him, and said he trusted Mr Green and comrades would not be too long absent from home and social ties in Masterton. Mr Green thanked the staff for their expression of esteem.
