EKETAHUNA
SCHOOL COMMITTEE BUSINESS AT MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna District High School Committee was held last evening when the following members were present: Messrs H. E. Greathead (in the chair), R. Farrow, R. Gallagher, K. Murray, S. Daniel, J. Tolley and the headmaster, Mr A. B. Fordyce. Leave of absence was granted Mr H. E. Rogers.
Accounts amounting to £8 Is 3d were passed. The secretary was instructed to write to the Education Board requesting urgency in calling tenders for various works authorised by the board at its last meeting. A letter of appreciation was authorised to be sent to the District Nurse for the service rendered by her to the children every week. It was decided to write to the Bush Rugby Union thanking it for the donation of two footballs. It was resolved that the headmaster be authorised to render accounts to parents for dental fees due. Messrs K. Murray and S. Daniel were appointed the visiting committee for the month. Mr Tolley was appointed a trustee in place of Mr R. Payne. The headmaster’s re,port, which was adopted, showed the roll numbers to be: Primary, 160; secondary, 47. The influenza epidemic still persists resulting in a daily non-attendance of 20 scholars. The free apple distribution has been discontinued. Since the first issue on April 8, 108 cases had been consumed at the school. Milk was in short supply, but was up to present requirements. During the month 150 free exercise books were received at the school. A grant of £6 had been received from the board for handwork material at the Secondary Department.
