KOPUARANGA

RED CROSS SOCIETY ENJOYABLE DANCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) An enjoyable dance organised by the local members of the Red Cross Society was held in the Kopuaranga Hall on Tuesday evening. The object of the dance was to raise funds for equipment for training V.A.D’s. The hall was decorated with greenery and flags and a dainty home-made supper wasi served by the local ladies. Music was supplied by Mr J. West, and Messrs J. Clarke and B. Fenemor capably carried ' out the duties of M’s.C. Mrs R. Miller delighted those present with two humorous recitations. A “honey” waltz caused much amusement and was finally won by Miss M. Wright and Mr C. C. Jackson. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr and Mrs O'Connor, and the Lucky Gay Gordons by Miss L. Westhead and Mi’ E. Christensen. Dancing was continued until after midnight. Teacher Farewelled.

Mothers and friends of the school children paid a surprise visit to the school to bid farewell to Miss Tucker, who has since severed her connection with the Kopuaranga School to take up an appointment at Tarawera. Pearl Cottle, on behalf of the children, asked Miss Tucker to accept a trinket box of polished woods, inlaid with paua shell. Miss Miller, on behalf of those present, wished Miss Tucker success in her new position, and congratulated her on her promotion. Miss Tucker suitably replied. The children then challenged the visitors to a game of basketball, and a hilarious and strenuous half-hour followed, the result of which was a draw, the score being 4 all.
