The Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister of Health, returned to Wellington from the South Island today. Advice has been received that Pte. Len T. Blackley, who was reported wounded, has now been discharged from hospital.
The Hon. H. T. Armstrong, Minister of Public Works, left Wellington yesterday on a visit to Hawke’s Bay and the Wairarapa. He will return to Wellington tomorrow. Mr N. B. Andrew, of Masterton, is leaving next week to take up an appointment at Petone. Mr Andrew is well-known as secretary of the St. Andrew Society.
The death has occurred of Mr Matthew Parkhill, of Hastings. Mr Parkhill came to New Zealand from.Greenock, Scotland, with his family in 1925 and immediately settled in Hastings, where he set up business as a baker. He was a keen member of the Kia Toa Bowling' Club and a member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church.
The Auckland Education Board yesterday confirmed the appointment of Mr J. W. Fawcett as headmaster of the Normal School, Auckland, replacing Mr G. K. Hamilton, who has retired. Mr Fawcett has been teaching for 35 years, and in the last two appointments has been headmaster of the Ponsonby School and Cornwall Park School respectively. Mr V. G. Chapman, general treasurer of the Presbyterian Church of New Zealand, died in Wellington this morning after a very brief illness. He was fifty-one years of age. Mr Chapman joined the Presbyterian Church office staff in 1912 and served with the forces overseas in the Great War. He was wounded and on his return to New Zealand resumed duty with tne church. He was appointed assistant treasurer in 1925 and general treasurer in 1928.
