EKETAHUNA

FiRE SERVICE

MEETING OF BRIGADE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Eketahuna Fire Brigade was hold last evening, Superintendent H. Rogers presiding over a full attendance of members.

Accounts amounting to £2 13s 6d were passed for payment. The United Fire Brigades’ Association forwarded the names of several members of the Association who had made the supreme sacrifice whilst on active service. As a mark of respect to their memory the members observed a minute’s silence in the customary manner.

Mr C. Hausmann was elected a member of the brigade. Superintendent Rogers presented Fireman S. O'Regan with a 2-year silver bar on his completing 15 years' service with the brigade. Preliminary arrangements were made in connection with the annual ball to be held on August 11. As the outcome of an application made by the brigade to the Borough Council for necessary equipment, Messrs D. D. Regan and M. VZ. Priest were present and expressed regret that the Council’s funds this year would not permit the purchasing of the equipment. They suggested that the brigade should organise an effort to raise funds for the purpose. A frank discussion ensued, in which it was stated that the equipping of the brigade was the responsibility of the Council. The suggestion that an effort be made was not favoured at the present time. Messrs Ryan and Priest thanked the brigade for the consideration of the Council’s case and promised to do all in their power to assist it if at all possible.

Superintendent Rogers thanked the Councillors for attending and clearing up misunderstandings that had been evident on both sides.
