SCHOOL COMMITTEE
-MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age”, Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown District High School Committee was held last evening. There were present Messrs H. G. Carter (chairman), F. Dennes, VZ. Grigg. E. Galyer, J. Morison, H. C. Trotman. . VZ. G. K. Wiggins, Mrs Knell, secretary, and the headmaster, Mr S. C. Shedden.
The headmaster reported inter alia as follows: The Primary roll number is 291 and the Secondary 40. The bad weather and sickness has continued to effect the attendance.
The Education Board wrote congratulating the school on the excellent results obtained from its more production campaign. Advice was received that the contracts had been arranged for extra electrical appliances to take the place of the gas at the school. It was reported that the inspection of the Fire Extinguishers had been completed. It was decided to apply for two for the new class rooms.
Arrangements were made for the supply of cocoa. It was reported that the probable crops to be grown this year at the school are peas, sugar-beet and mangels. Mr Wiggins was authorised to make arrangements for suitable ground in which to grow the crops. Messrs Morison and Trotman were appointed school visitors for July. Home Guard. A Company, South Wairarapa Battalion, will parade at the Crown Theatre, Greytown, at 7.30 o'clock this evening. Red Cross Society. The Home Nursing Unit will parade at the depot at 7.30 o’clock tonight. Personal.
The marriage took place at St. Mary’s Church, Carterton, on Monday, of Miss Ena Carter, second daughter of Mr E. Carter, Carrington, and Mr J. Hood, eldest son of Mr and Mrs G. H. Hood, of Grey town.
