MILITARY SERVICE

APPEALS DISMISSED WITHOUT COMMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WAIROA, This Day. Claiming that he could not take up arms to fight because, in his opinion, war was an evil thing, Hendry Gliddon, Postmaster at Tuai, appealed against military service at a sitting of the No. 4 appeal board in Wairoa yesterday on grounds of conscientious objection. Mr Stillwell, S.M.. chairman, dismissed the appeal without comment. Henry Lees, also a civil servant at Tuai. appealed against service on similar grounds. He said in evidence that he was against participating in warfare and was definitely unwilling to take life or to take any oath against Christ’s teachings. Mr Stillwell also dismissed this appeal without comment.
