TANK PRODUCTION
SAID TO BE LAGGING
IN BRITAIN
FIFTY THOUSAND NEEDED.
IN ORDER TO WIN VICTORY
(By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 1.
“Britain is lagging behind in the race to produce tanks,” declares the “Daily Express” military correspondent. “She needs 50,000 of these vital weapons if she is to win the war. Britain first concentrated on lighter tanks, but has now changed, to a heavier tanks policy. The standard heavy model is a cruiser tank with 6.200 separate parts. More than 50,000 different machining and assembling operations are required to put it together. It is a magnificent job, but there are not nearly enough of this type.”
