COURSING

THIS WEEK’S BIG MEETING. GATHERING AT AKURA. At the Akura Plumpton, Masterton. this week, commencing on Thursday, followers of coursing will have an opportunity of seeing some of the fastest greyhounds in action, in pursuit of trained hares.

Notable performers already in the Classic for the North Island Cup, include the New Zealand champion flat racer, White Tracer, from Napier. This dog has an outstanding record on the track and performed well on the plumpton towards the end of last year. His kennel mate, Royal Artillery, is the winner of the Centennial Purse run at Hastings last season. Both are expected to run well at the meeting. Royal Desire and All Cash are two fast dogs that can be relied upon to show plenty of speed. A Gisborne dog, Sea Red, has excellent breeding. He is from imported stock and should run true to type. Lady Luna, winner of the two last open stakes held here, should perform well, as she is fast and works the hare, cleverly. The first two days’ coursing will start promptly at 1 o’clock. Cars may be taken on to the grounds free of charge and refreshments will be obtainable on the ground. On Saturday a bus will leave the Post Office at 1.15 p.m. The first course on that day will be at 1,30 p.m.
