AUSTRALIAN FORCES
THREE BRANCHES IN ACTION TOGETHER. FOR FIRST TIME IN HISTORY. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) HAIFA, June 28. The Australian official war correspondent says that this afternoon, for the first time in history, the three branches of the Australian services were in action together. The cruiser Perth, with British destroyers, one of which was manned by Australians, carried out a bombardment of Vichy batteries and troops in the WadiDamour area, where the A.I.F. is engaged. Overhead circled Tomahawks of a R.A.A.F. squadron, giving protection in the air.
The Perth's guns poured some tons of high explosive shells on the enemy positions. In the first few minutes there were feeble salvos from the shore batteries, but these fell short, and the batteries did not fire again.
