The Wanganui Ministers’ Association has sent a protest to the Minister of Internal Affairs against raising patriotic funds by gambling games and competitions. and urging that direct taxation for patriotic funds be adopted by the Government. The Wanganui branch of the National Council'of Women took a similar stand, protesting against gambling for patriotic funds on the grounds of its “pernicious effect upon young people.
