Fog in Masterton.

Masterton was enveloped for a considerable period early this morning in a heavy fog, visibility being difficult beyond fifty yards. Boy’s Death at Football. Playing fourth grade Rugby for High School, Ernest Hutton, aged 14. collapsed and died during a match at Rugby Park, Whangarei. The inquest was adjourned for a post-mortem examination. Building Permits. The Masterton Borough Council last month issued six building permits for an. estimated value of £2,811 18s, as compared with seven permits for £3,213 6s 6d in June, 1940. One new dwelling is included in last month's figures. The Masterton County Council issued five permits for £1,295. W.D.F.U. Shop Day.

A shop day will be held in the Women’s Division of the Farmers' Union rest rooms tomorrow in aid of funds to procure wool to knit comforts for the Mercantile Marine. Last months the branch made its first contribution of blankets, socks, scarves and caps, which were packed and sent to England. Mesdames E. J. Wright and J. Gray will distribute wool to those who wish to assist in the work. As the garments are to be sent for this coming winter in England the work is of an urgent nature. The gift of bought garments, in addition to knitted goods, would be appreciated.
