EKETAHUNA

FAREWELL DANCE NEWMAN RESIDENTS HONOURED. (“Times-Age” Special.) There was an exceptionally large attendance at the farewell dance tendered to Mr T. F. Edge and Mr and Mrs J. Davis in the Newman Hall on Friday night. Visitors were present from Pahiatua, Eketahuna, Masterton and the immediate surrounding districts were well represented. Dancing was enjoyable to music supplied by Messrs K. Marenzi, A. and J. Rowden. Extras were played by Mesdames Spring and Giles and Mr N. Harris. The duties of M’s.C. were carried out by Messrs H. Brookes and R. Kiddie. During the supper interval, presentations were made to the guests by Mr J. Hudson, in the absence of Mr J. E. Monaghan, chairman of the Dairy Company. In referring to .Mr Edge’s lengthy sojourn in the district, Mr Hudson said that he had been chairman of the Newman School Committee for some years and was for a period secretary of the Dairy Company, having carried out his duties with distinction. Mr G. Jaspers endorsed Mr Hudson’s remarks saying the farming community had much to thank Mr Edge for during his term as factory secretary. Mr R. Farrow spoke of Mr Edge's association with hockey in the Bush district. Mr Edge had been a tower of strength to the game, especially in the ladies’ competition. Mr S. E. Warner, secretary of the Dairy Company, referred to Mr Edge's excellent work during the period he was secretary. Mr Hudson presented a travelling rug to Mr Edge. In asking Mr Davis’s acceptance of an eiderdown, Mr Hudson said that Mr and Mrs Davis had carried out excellent .work on behalf of the district. Messrs Edge and Davis suitably returned thanks. Supper was provided by the ladies. Personal Items. Mr H. Crocker, Kati Kati, is the guest of Mr and Mrs H. Hardingham, John Street. Mrs C. E. Reardon has returned from visiting Lower Hutt. Mrs E. Albrechtsen has returned from Wellington. Mr J. E. Monaghan, Newman, is visiting Auckland, where he attended the Dairy Conference.
